WOWI®
Interviewed By The Reporter Of Europa Star At Hong Kong's Watch
and Clock Fair In 2000
|
Amongst the thousands
of watches on display at this year's Fair, the Wowi watch collection
stood out by the proverbial mile... which in fact may be fortuitous
since the company has designed a collection specifically for any medallists
from the Chinese Olympic delegation. Forty - five watches of each catagory
- Gold, Silver, and Bronze with Swiss automatic chronograph movements,
have been produced for the occasion. The dial are marked "Champion",
"Silver Medallist" or "Bronze Medallist" for the
three categories of medal winners and were presented to the Chinese
medallists at a special ceremony in Sydney on September 29.
Lam Fai Yuen, the founder of Wowi has had a longing for many years to
express his love for his country. "Both athletes and I have something
in common," he explains. " To win a gold medal is a dream
of an athlete, while to create a prestige brand is my ambition. I have
been aiming to create a prestige watch brand that would be renowned
both at home and abroad. Wowi watches have realized my dream. To create
a brand is long, tortuous and arduous process and so is the training
of athletes. Without indomitable will, you will never succeed. Therefore,
to present these watches to the winning Chinese athletes is a perfect
match to commemorate their contribution to the fame of the country.
" Although Mr. Lam has been running his business since 1976, it
wasn't until 1983 that he diversified into watch making, with the result
that the Wowi watches can now be found around the world. They are selling
particulary well in both Japan and Europe. The success of the watches
is partly due to the Italian-style avant - garde designing with their
elegant, streamlined profile and partly because of the high quality
of the manufacturing. They are in stainless steel with an over zealous
consideration for the quality of the finish. The watches are fitted
with what the company consider to be the ultimate in movements - either
automatic Swiss chronographs or Japanese quartz. What's in a name? Well,
Wowi is not only the contraction of World Wide, but also the symbol
of a company that considers design, technical prowess and quality to
be an essential part of its company philosophy. Their slogan is "A
Symbol of Lifetime Quality". It's a company with a future, which,
I have from a very good source, apparently includes much closer ties
with Switzerland. So keep your eyes and ears open... and your wrists
available.
